Ubuntu (VM and YYC):
show_message() and show_message_async() seem to be showing a corrupted version of special characters (e.g. newlines) in the message. On my setup, the newlines turned to "VT" characters.
Please also take a look at this ticket while you're at it, which shows an even more severe corruption of the message.
Android (possibly iOS too):
Synchronous message functions seem to be showing only "'show_message' has been deprecated on this platform. Please use 'show_message_async' instead.", no matter what you tell it to show. While I also agree that show_message() and the like should not be used in final products, its ability to stop execution and look at a value is valuable in debug setups, and the current approach is too heavy-handed. The deprecation warning should be shown in addition to the value passed into show_message() and the like, not in place of it.
