[BUG] Asset Browser (moving and duplicating folders)

This is a huge issue I'm bumping into. The asset browser is absolutely broken. These errors all show up after opening a previous project. Here is the complete list of problems I've found so far:

    • It creates empty duplicates of existing folders. One empty duplicate is made for each time the project is opened, e.g. if a project is opened four times, there will be four empty duplicates of a folder experiencing this glitch.
    • It splits a folder into two duplicate folders with the same name - in one folder it puts loose assets, in the other it puts subfolders. (This one is less common, but still happens regularly.)
    • It rearranges the order of assets and folders when using a custom order. (There is no logic to the organization. They are not arranged alphabetically or by asset type, but just scrambled in their folder.)
    • When moving an asset, it (very rarely) makes that asset disappear entirely. Performing a search of assets will come up with no results, but the asset can be referred to in code. Upon closing and reopening the project, the asset will reappear in the asset list.
    • If two folders anywhere in the project have the same name (two folders of sprites called Sprites for two different groups), it will sometimes confuse them and trade assets between those two folders. I fixed this by renaming the folders "HUD Sprites" or "Player Sprites". These folders are now creating empty duplicates aka the first bug on this list.

New problem: The asset browser removes a subfolder and placed it into the parent folder. So folder1 contained folder2 which container folder3. Now folder1 has both folder2 and 3 inside it.

New problem: Assets appear in a search that do not appear in the normal view.

Here's what happened: I knew I needed an asset named sprite0. I look in the folder I think it's in, but don't see anything. I decide to perform a search for it. And it shows this path:

    Sprites / Sub1 / Sub2 / sprite0.

So I close the search and try to navigate through those folders. But this is all I find:

    Sprites / Sub1

So both the asset I'm looking for AND the folder containing it cannot be seen in the normal asset tree. But they do appear in a search. This has happened many times. At first I thought I was just going crazy or missing something, but it's definitely hiding assets and folders. This is similar to the issue I described in my first comment where it makes an asset disappear, but in that instance the asset would NOT appear in a search and occurred when relocating an asset. This error occurs upon opening a project and assets DO appear in searches.

The solution to this problem is to perform a search of what you're looking for and drag the invisible assets from their folder into the root of asset list. This makes them available outside of a search.

New problem: Asset browser removes color coding from folder upon opening project.

I have one folder for everything relating to the map and navigation. I wanted to color this folder orange. I apply the color and can see it in that session. If I close and reopen my project, the coloring is removed.

All other folders keep their colors. This is the only folder that behaves in this way for no particular reason. It has one object, one script, and one sprite in it.

I am having this same issue so, bump.  I have actually found this bug makes game maker unusable and am just waiting for it to get patch out before I continue working on things.

Bump. Will YoYo please acknowledge and address this bug? I would like to remove the attached project file. It's been two weeks now.

    Hi Cameron,

    Sorry for the late reply.

We have reproduced this issue now and I have added it to our bug database, so I'll mark the thread as Completed.

    Thanks again.
