There's a few reasons why asset layers are now unusable and these issues did not exist in previous builds of Game Maker so I'm assuming these were due to recent changes.
1. Placing a sprite into the asset layer causing the project to save which is harmless but holding Alt + Left Mouse and placing a bunch of sprites quickly causes a crash very quickly
2. Moving multiple sprites at once causes the program to slow down significantly. Nearly to the point of unusable once you have 8+ selected at once.
It's worth noting that I use Game Maker on a 3840x2160 monitor so perhaps that has something to do with it? Even when using Game Maker on my side monitors which are 1920x1080 these performance issues occur but I thought it would be worth mentioning.
