All users are now able to download and use the content of our Asset Bundles during the month that they are released and any user with an active paid Subscription is able to download and use the content of all of our previous bundles.
Where to find Asset Bundles
Asset Bundles can be found on our website at https://gamemaker.io/en/bundles
The link to the Bundles Page in the Navigation Bar will also allow you to access the page:
On the Bundles Page, you will be shown the current Bundle across the top of the page with a countdown to this Bundle ending and the next Bundle becoming available.
If you have an active paid Subscription, you'll be able to continue accessing the Asset Bundle after the countdown ends but if you do not have an active paid Subscription, you will only be able to download the current Asset Bundle.
How to see what's in the Asset Bundle
When you hover over the banner on the Bundles page, you can see high level information about what is in the Bundle and you will also be shown buttons to View the Bundle contents.
To see additional information, you can click on View to open the Bundle information page:
On this page, you will be shown a video of the assets, example screenshots of the assets in use, and a more detailed description of the content of the bundle.
At the bottom of this section there is an area titled "What's Included?" which will provide a comprehensive list of the Bundle's content.
How to Access Previous Asset Bundles
All previous Asset Bundles are shown underneath the current Bundle.
If users with an active paid Subscription, all bundles are shown with a download icon and they can be viewed and downloaded in the same way as the Current Bundle:
For users who do not have an active paid Subscription, the Previous Bundles will be shown with a Subscribe icon, they can still be viewed in the same way as the Current Bundle but the user will be unable to download the Bundle:
This has the same Hover over information and you can still open the Bundle Information Page by clicking the View button.
If you are not logged into a GameMaker Account you will also be shown a message on Bundles, prompting you to log into an Account in order to interact with the Asset Bundle.
How to Download the Asset Bundle's contents
When you view an Asset Bundle that you should be able to access (current Bundle if you do not have an active paid Subscription or all Bundles if you do have an active paid Subscription), selecting to View and opening the Bundle Information Page will have dropdown boxes for Full Download and Part Download
You have 2 options in the Full Download dropdown menu:
Download the entire Bundle as a .zip file
This will give you access to all images, sounds and any other assets that the Bundle contains, completely outside of GameMaker. You can then choose precisely what you would like to add to your GameMaker project.
Download the entire Bundle as a .yymp file
This will give you access to all images, sounds and any other asset type that the Bundle contains, within GameMaker. All frames of animations are present in Sprites and all Skeletal Animation Sprites (Spine) are added as Sprites with all of the accompanying files added as Included Files.
.yymp files are Local Asset Packages and their use is explained in our Manual Here including a section on Importing An Asset Package. This section of the manual page is summarised in the How to Use the Asset Bundle's Contents section Below.
In addition to the Full Download dropdown there is also a Part Download dropdown:
Each bundle will have a different breakdown of partial downloads, this is so you can download just a particular asset type if you do not require the entire Bundle. All of the Part Downloads, when put together, will provide you will all of the assets from the full .yymp download with no duplication of assets.
How to Use the Asset Bundle's contents
Files downloaded in the .zip file can be imported and used in the same way that any other sound or image is imported and used within GameMaker and this section will cover the use of .yymp files.
There are two ways to import a Local Asset Package:
- Drag the *.yymp file from an explorer window onto the GameMaker IDE
- Select the "Import Local Package" option from the Tools Menu
When using the Tools Menu, an explorer window will open and you can browse to the package location then select it for importing. Either way will then open the following window in GameMaker:
On the left are the contents of the package and on the right are the parts of it that you want to import. You can select one or more resources from the package (using the left mouse button or a combination of / and along with the left mouse button) and then use the Add button to add them for importing, or use the Add All button to add everything for importing.
When you have everything ready, you can then click the Import button to add the selected resources to your project.
Note that you also have the option to Import all resources to a new project, which will create a new project for you (and prompt you to give a location to save it to) and then add the package resources to that.
Assets that are present in the Monthly Asset Bundles can be used within your games (and associated marketing) as they are considered YYG Assets as described in our EULA - Section 3.3
Use of YYG Content. Where you license YYG Content from the GameMaker Marketplace, YoYo Games grants to you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, limited, worldwide licence to use such YYG Content for its intended purpose only, which will vary depending on the type of YYG Content, subject to your full compliance with the terms of this User Agreement and payment of all applicable fees. For example, for YYG assets (e.g. sprites, extensions, skins and demos) you are allowed to include these as embedded components of digital games and associated marketing (which you may choose to distribute for free or for money - that's up to you).
