How to find your IP Address on Windows
For many things it's important that you know the IP Address (Internet Protocol Address). This is actually really easy to find by just following these instructions :
- Hold down the “Windows key” and press “R” on the keyboard to bring up the "Run" window
- Type “cmd” and hit the enter key to bring up a command line prompt
- Type “ipconfig” and then hit enter
- Find where it says ipv4 and your IP address is the following number
For those of you who are wary of using the command line, you may also do this from Windows.
For Windows 7 users :
- Open windows Control Panel and select Network and Internet
- You will then have to go to the Network and Sharing Center
- Next, click on the change adaptor settings link from the panel on the left
- Click on the Local Area Network to select it and then right-click.status to bring up the status form
- Finally, click on the button marked Details which will bring up a new window with the IPv4 Address
For Windows XP users :
- Open windows Control Panel and select Network and Internet
- You will then have to go to the Network and Internet Settings
- Right-click on the icon for your network and select status to bring up the status window
- Finally, select the Support tab and click on the button marked Details which will bring up a new window with the IPv4 Address
How to find your IP Address on a Mac
Your Mac's IP address can be accessed within Mac System Preferences:
- Select "System Preferences" from the Apple pull down menu.
- Select “Network” from preferences.
- Your IP address will be visible to the right, as marked in the imagebellow.
