Upgrading a GM:S 1.4 license to get GMS 2

GameMaker Studio 2 has been launched and from now until the 31st of August if you are a GameMaker: Studio 1.4 owner you can take advantage of special discount when purchasing any of the GameMaker Studio 2 licences (Desktop, Mobile, Web or UWP).

If you wish to take advantage of this upgrade offer, you can do so by logging in to your YoYo Account (the one used to licence GameMaker: Studio 1.4 & Studio 2) and going to the licenses page:

Here you can review the licenses you have for GameMaker: Studio 1.4 as well as the various different upgrade options for GameMaker Studio 2 that the licence gives. If you have the Master Collection licence then you are entitled to a 50% discount on each of the GameMaker Studio 2 licences (and this is not limited to a single purchase so if you want to buy - for example - Desktop today and then decide to buy Web later, you will get 50% off each). For all other GameMaker: Studio 1.4 licences you can get a 40% discount with the following upgrade path:

  • Pro Licence - GMS2 Desktop
  • Android or iOS Licence - GMS2 Mobile
  • HTML5 Licence - GMS2 Web
  • UWP Licence / Windows Phone - GMS2 UWP

If you have multiple licences for GameMaker: Studio 1.4 these will all be taken into consideration when generating the upgrade path, so if you have a 1.4 Pro + Android licence and a 1.4 HTML5 licence, you will be able to upgrade to GMS2 Desktop, Web and/or Mobile.

Once you have decided which upgrade path to choose, simply click the green button that corresponds to the required licence to be taken to the purchase overview:

Here you can choose which GameMaker: Studio 1.4 licence to redeem (or you can choose no upgrade, but once you have purchased a GMS licence this way you forfeit your upgrade discount), and then either click the blue "Add and Continue Shopping" button to add further licences, or continue on to the checkout by clicking the green "Add and View Basket" button.

Here you can review the purchase details one more time before paying, and payment can be made either through the YoYo Games E-Commerce page (American Express, Visa, Maestro).

Once purchase has been completed you will be shown a summary page of the transaction, and you can then go back to your Licences page where you'll see the new licence details:

You can now download your new version of GameMaker Studio 2 from the main YoYo Games Website, and, after installing it, simply log in with your YoYo Account details to get started!

IMPORTANT! If you have been using the Trial Licence and then upgrade (or have upgraded to one licence and then buy another), when you open GameMaker Studio 2 you will need log out and restart the program then log in again to activate the new export targets for the licence bought.
