The GameMaker Studio 2 Desktop licence permits you to target Windows, macOS and Ubuntu platforms, giving you the opportunity to not only test, but also build final executable packages for those platforms (although of course we don't recommend you publish store packages this early in the beta!). The Desktop licence also lifts all the resource limits that are imposed by the trial licence and gives you the ability to import your GM: S 1.4 projects, plus enables advanced user features like source control, texture/audio management and many more.
To get the Desktop Licence you must first go to the YoYo Games website and sign up for a YoYo Account. Once you have your account (or if you already have an account) you need to sign in and go to the Licences page, where you'll see the option to get the Free Trial version as well as the option to buy/upgrade to a Desktop Licence (GameMaker: Studio 1.4 upgrade options are for limited time only!):
If you have never owned any version of GameMaker: Studio then you will be shown a checkout screen with the details of the purchase and a button to proceed to the checkout (note that if your YoYo Account is not fully up-to-date then you may have to do this before you can continue with the purchase):
For those users who already have a licence for GameMaker: Studio 1.4 the checkout screen will be slightly different, as before going to the checkout page you will first have to choose which product type you wish to pay for:
If you choose "No Upgrade" then you are buying a brand new licence at full price, omitting any offers that may be available. The other option will show you the type of GameMaker: Studio licence that you already own and the special upgrade price for that licence (GameMaker: Studio 1.4 upgrade options are for limited time only!). Choose the one that you require and then continue to payment through the checkout.
Once payment has been completed by either Credit Card or Paypal and then confirming the purchase, you will be taken back to your YoYo Games Account Licences page where your new licence should be shown:
Now you have to download and install GameMaker Studio 2, which you can get by clicking the "Download GameMaker Studio 2" button at the top of the Licences page.
After installing and running GameMaker Studio 2 you will be prompted to log in using the same YoYo Account email and password you used to purchase the product. GMS2 will then download and install your extra runtime files and you can start to make games for any of the desktop targets.
Q: After final release will my licence be valid for all future updates (not only Beta)?
A: Yes. This is a permanent GameMaker Studio 2 Desktop licence.
Q: If I use my discount now will I still be able to use it on the 'Coming Soon' other products?
A: Yes. If you use a 1.X Pro licence with other modules or a 1.X Master licence, you can still use these licences to get discount on your upgrade to the other products as they go on sale.
